How the First Check® Home Drug Test Works

The First Check Home Drug Test uses Lateral Flow Chromatographic Immunoassay technology, a process that takes place on each of the test strips on the Test Lid. The process works by exposing the urine sample to special chemical reagents within the test strip in a specific order and at a specific speed.

  • When the First Check Test Lid is secured to the top of the cup and the cup is tilted onto its legs, the urine in the cup comes into contact with the First Check test strips on the Test Lid.

  • The absorbent material of each test strip carries the urine sample across the strip at a specific speed.

  • First, the urine sample encounters drug-specific antibodies that only react to the specific drug or drug metabolites being tested for. These drug-specific antibodies are permanently bound to large, colored particles.

Negative:

  • If the urine sample does not contain the specific drug or drug metabolites being tested for, the colored particles with the antibodies will flow up the test strip and be captured at a special location on the strip, forming a red or pink Drug Line.

  • When the colored Drug Line appears, the test is Negative for the drug being tested for.

Positive:

  • If the urine sample does contain the specific drug or drug metabolites being tested for, the colored particles with the antibodies will flow past the special location on the strip and no Drug Line will form.

  • When no colored Drug Line appears, this indicates a Preliminary Positive Result for the drug being tested for.

  • Finally, the sample reaches the control location near the top of the test strip where some of the colored particles are captured to form a red or pink Control Line. A visible Control Line indicates that flow through the strip was successful and the test is working properly.
